    Description

The Research Triangle in North Carolina stands as one of the world’s most sophisticated life sciences clusters, anchored by the powerhouse research universities of Duke, UNC-Chapel Hill and NC State.

Renowned as the birthplace of the modern Contract Research Organization (CRO), the region serves as a global nerve center for clinical research and high-compliance regulatory affairs. This vibrant ecosystem is a premier destination for pharmaceutical manufacturing, with industry giants like Novo Nordisk, Eli Lilly and Pfizer recently committing billions to expand their biomanufacturing footprints. Beyond traditional pharma, the Triangle is a pioneer in biotechnology innovation, leading the charge in cell and gene therapy and precision medicine development.

The region’s medical device sector thrives through specialized hubs like BD Technologies, which advance diagnostics and healthtech through collaborative academic research.

With a deep STEM talent pool and a robust supply chain infrastructure, the area offers a unique "lab-to-market" pipeline that accelerates drug discovery and commercialization. As a primary driver of healthcare innovation, the Research Triangle continues to bridge the gap between groundbreaking laboratory science and global patient care.
